About Burke Lake South

Burke Lake is a freshwater lake located in Grant County, Washington, within the renowned Columbia Basin. The Columbia Basin is characterized by its unique geography, comprising vast areas of fertile land and numerous lakes, making it a popular destination for outdoor activities like kayaking. Burke Lake, in particular, stands out due to its calm waters and serene environment, providing an ideal setting for paddlers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Covering a modest area, Burke Lake is easily accessible from nearby cities, which contributes to its popularity as a leisure destination. The lake offers not only recreational opportunities but also a peaceful escape from the bustle of urban life. It is important to note that small lakes like Burke are categorized as flat-water bodies. These types of waterbodies are characterized by less turbulent conditions, making them particularly conducive for activities such as kayaking, swimming, and fishing.

Paddlers venturing onto Burke Lake can anticipate relatively calm water conditions, which cater to kayakers of all skill levels. The lake's low wind exposure reduces the chances of encountering rough waters or choppy conditions—a significant factor for beginners and families. Additionally, the limited motorboat traffic enhances the paddling experience, allowing participants to enjoy a tranquil day on the water. The depths of Burke Lake vary, although they tend to be manageable for leisurely recreational activities rather than high-speed boating. Moreover, the clarity of the water usually remains moderate, affording decent visibility for both swimming and fishing.

reviewsWhat Paddlers Say

Beautiful lake just a bit overtaken by invasive weeds. Just cast your line far or go by boat if you're fishing. There is a boat launch here with a dock. There is also a fishing dock. An area for dispersed camping on the other side of the lake. Maybe other areas around this lake to set up camp. Check it out for yourself. I just went fishing here from the dock, and it was good. September is the time of smaller fish, but I still caught a couple of 15-inch trout. Vault toilets are here. This is a quiet and peaceful place. Good to get away from everyday noise.

This is a decent plank ramp on Burke Lake. Note that there is another ramp just to the north if this happens to fill up. No dock available but there is a restroom facility available. Camping is allowed and there is a gate to be aware of.
