The regional context of kayaking in Washington State is vital to understanding the allure of Panther Lake amid the diverse water bodies available for exploration. Washington is renowned for its extensive waterways ranging from the expansive Pacific coastline to the multitude of lakes and rivers interspersed throughout the landscape. In the Olympic Peninsula region alone, opportunities for a wide range of water activities abound, including white-water rafting, long-distance kayaking, and serene lake paddling. Kayaking enthusiasts can find both thrilling challenges and tranquil escapes within the state's numerous lakes, rivulets, and coastal waters. Panther Lake fits snugly into this lineage of idyllic paddling locations, providing a peaceful alternative to the often-bustling spots that are also popular among outdoors enthusiasts.

As a calm lake, Panther Lake offers remarkably favorable conditions for kayakers. Its sheltered environment limits wind exposure, leading to smooth water surfaces that enhance the paddling experience. Moreover, the surrounding topography helps to block inclement weather, allowing paddlers to enjoy their excursions with minimal disruptive elements. The lake's depth is adequate for various watercraft, and its clarity provides a distinctive opportunity for catching glimpses of aquatic life beneath the surface. With a generally low wave activity and little to no significant chop, paddlers can feel assured that they are entering a safe environment conducive to both leisure and adventure. Caution is warranted, however, as the presence of motorboats can be experienced, particularly during peak recreational periods. Observing one's surroundings and being mindful of motorized traffic is an essential safety measure to maintain when paddling on Panther Lake.

reviewsWhat Paddlers Say

Love this lake, spend most of my free time during summer paddle boarding here with my daughter. Noticed this year no parking by the boat launch now (have to park across the street in gravel lot). This year the lake seems deeper than it's been the last few years (which is great), but unfortunately the bottom (or any where you can walk along the bottom that is) is slimy and covered In algae. I'd say swim shoes are a must and avoid using the port a potty it needs some definite maintenance

I love to kayak here when the tides are wrong for a salt water paddle or when it is warm enough for a swim. I go out, beach on the tiny island and swim around it. And ice cream at Bear Creek Store is a good end to the day. Boat launch is full of big pot holes. Wish there was a nicer place on the sides for picnicers.

I have a feeling you need to get away from the boat launch to catch anything decent. Bring a float tube or kayak so you can get to where the big ones are. I am.
