Wallowa Lake County Park

“A five-star park and general area. I took away a star though for the campground as the sites are way too close to each other to truly enjoy the camping experience. You can hear every word spoken in the adjacent campsites while just using a normal conversational voice. We paid almost $300 for four nights and I expect better for that kind of money. 50amp service and even sewer connects at each site is nice if you have an RV but I'm making the effort to go out into nature to get away from people a little bit. I don't like being 10 ft away from the group right next to me, especially if they have multiple children and pets. Malawa Lake itself is absolutely gorgeous and if you haven't been there and to the accompanying town of Joseph you're really missing out on a natural wonder. That said the campground is just designed too tightly to enjoy unless you're looking for that sort of loud group atmosphere. Perhaps during a shoulder season weekday it would be nicer but we were there with the park at capacity and it was just like being in the city with the noise level amount of people everywhere.”

“We rented yurt 18 due to the incoming rain. It was really nice to have that option. Seemed like the entire loop was closed except for the yurts which was awesome because the other loops were packed and REALLY noisy. We had the entire loop and no neighbors! I've always wanted to stay here but it's always so busy, early October was perfect! And there was plenty of room to setup a tent near the yurt. The mattresses are NOT comfortable at all. I would advise bringing some kind of mattress topper lol the park is really nice, bathrooms were clean and kept that way through our entire stay. Lots of deer that were not afraid to come say hi, and even a quick visit from a fox one night at the campfire. Yurt 18 had 2 tables, a big one by the fire pit and a smaller one up on the porch under a cover. There was a water spicket thing right by the campsite and a sink water dump right across.”

“Stayed here for 2 nights and had the best time. The camp site was easy to find and very clean. While it was cold, it was winter camping, and the heated restrooms were so amazing to have on a chilly morning. The restrooms were clean and well stocked. The park ranger who stopped by was friendly and very polite. The highlight was waking up and finding a small heard of deer walking right past our site.”
